FFXIV Character creator sneak peek



Maybe I'm still a terrible weeaboo, but the 'art style' in FFXIV appeals to me a lot more than those in other MMOs. You know how some MMOs go for the realistic look, and others for a cartoony one because simpler styles require less resources and they're said to last better. I must say the cartoony look we've so far seen of SWTOR is a big, BIG turnoff for me, I don't find it pleasing or appealing at all - but there's something in the looks and animations of FFXIV characters that makes me like them on first sight.

(also, lulz at the people in the video :D - it's a pretty smart way to do a bilingual video though)

EDIT. Haha, the video has apparently been removed by Squeenix. I'll re-link if it comes online again.

    Everybody loves furries! In Aion it was the delicate little Elyos princesses, in FFXI it was Mithra so it only makes sense to have furries in FFXIV :D

    it seems to me that the character creation is pretty low end... especially compared to APB

    I think your wrong anonymous person, its high end because this way people don't have much room to mess up aesthetics like in other games that give more customization options. Less is more at least in the case of character creation. Do you really think you could do make a better character then square enix? If so then good for you, but in my experience (Oblivion, Fallout III, Demon's Souls, and many more) it is way to hard to make a good looking character and I usually end up surfing through a million data files on forums and websites to replace my face.

    Age of Conan did a good job of providing sensible face customization options.

Besides all that, I'm making the point that it's 2010, and they've put it seems like a decade into this game and the first most in depth thing is completely lacking. 3 face options, 4 hair options, gimme a break! APB the game you could spend HOURS making a character. Also, 3 voices, cmon, I want a pitch slider... I'm severely disappointed in what I've seen so far.
